Designer in Focus: Saint Laurent
Youth. Rebellion. Sex appeal. Freedom.
The four pillars of Saint Laurent have stood strong since the house opened its doors in 1961 and they continue to hold it up today.
For those who love a distinctive, statement frame - Saint Laurent has to be first on the go-to list. Of course, the house has been responsible for killer classic shapes that should have a place in any eyewear devotee’s collection, but this season things get a bit extra and we think that’s deserving of its own celebration.
It’s true, we drool each time snaps from a Saint Laurent show arrive on our screen - and this Spring’s collection was no exception. The Spring 2019 runway showed us more than just Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello’s commitment to refreshing iconic YSL styles like the groundbreaking Le Smoking jacket. Which, this year, he’s done in a rock ‘n roll take with racy pairings we can totally get behind, like leopard print, leather short shorts, and gold lamé boots.
But it was more than the apparel this Spring. This season the show also featured the label’s most striking eyewear frames on many of their looks, showing how important the house believes the accessory is this year.
The micro-sized rounds, hearts, diamonds, and triangles accessorize the eyes as much as the tailoring, textures, or prints. And the the razor-sharp tailoring techniques that Vaccarello is known for, were echoed in carved out shapes of metal and glass.

But the runway only featured a select few of the styles the house of Saint Laurent is bringing out next season. There’s lots of ways to bring Saint Laurent’s street-worthy style to your wardrobe.
Take it to heart
Forget Lolita, we’re much more interested in LouLou.
The New Wave rimless were featured on the runway, but whether they’re rimless, acetate, or metal, it’s the LouLou’s sharp fit, unexpected pitch, and knifelike corners that we’re in love with, making for a more advanced ride than the bubble gum heart-shaped frames we’re used to seeing.

All Curves, All Angles
If the heart shape is too extreme, the Lily is a perfect way to get in on the idea of the trend without going all the way. We love the extreme upturn on this cat eye shape - one part curve, one part angle, the Lily gives new life to New Wave and we’re feeling it.

Hip to be Square
Angular shapes are a major theme for the upcoming Saint Laurent collection, with even cat eye styles getting the squared off treatment.

We can’t think of a better example of how changing up your eyewear can complete your look in an unexpected way that can go all the way from subtle to strong.
Whatever angle you take on your sunnies collection this year, Saint Laurent will make it a showstopper - and HOLLY Eyewear is the place to get them.
