The Power of Pink Glasses
Out of all the dramatic frames we have at HOLLY Eyewear, one special pair has become something of a mascot for us. If you’ve been in, there’s no doubt you’ve seen them featured in our glass case. You might have even tried them on yourself just to see what special effect they might have on you.
Our pink-on-pink rhinestone Gucci glasses are unlike any pair we’ve ever carried. When we put them on, it’s as if we’re overcome by an unseen persona, someone we’ve always wanted to be.

Just between us? There have been more than a few times when one of us at the boutique needed a little extra oomph, that the others pull out the pink Guccis and rested them on our faces as if to say: “What would the Gucci do!?”
Of course, a pair of frames like these are on the extreme end of faaaaabulous. Because, to be honest, sometimes extreme is the only way to go to get a point across. After all, frames this expressive don’t go without notice. They inspire an attitude, a boldness, and – even though you might imagine the opposite – they create a mystique that can hide and protect the most intense shyness.
What!? Crazy extroverted glasses are a style must-have for shy introverts? They do. For sure. We kid you not.
Perhaps nobody knows extreme shyness and extreme eyewear as well as the eyewear icon himself, Sir Elton John. The thing is – despite his theatrical performances – Sir Elton John has always been rather painfully shy and has been known to use his fanciful eyewear as a way of both embracing new attitudes and creating a protective barrier between himself and the public, in the same way that our pink Gucci frames do for us.
Naturally, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to have a complete cinematic primer on his impact on eyewear when Rocketman hit theatres last week.
And. OH. MAH. GAWD.
We were not disappointed! The movie was a feast not just for the music and fashion, but for the incredible parade of eyewear for which the singer has always been known.
Sir John has worn some of the most memorable frames in history, owning a jaw dropping collection of a reported 250,000 pairs, as this Pinterest board illustrates.
The movie featured a mere 50-60 pairs, all as massive in personality as they were in style and shape. But what was even more interesting was watching how Sir John’s identity developed with the shifts in his eyewear.
From relatively unassuming to the bigger the better, beyond brash, and extra bold, the optical collection in the film is the stuff of technicolour dreams!
